SCRUMPTIOUS!

About SCRUMPTIOUS...

All is well at Sylvie’s Scrumptious sweet shop. P.C. Lee can’t resist the fruit cake, Stanley, the Horse, loves peppermint creams, and the Talkative Twins only cause a crumb of chaos. Until a stranger arrives, that is, and their irresistible ice cream threatens to spoil everything.

Scrumptious is a magical show about friendship and ice cream, complete with hilarious songs, dancing, storytelling, and gentle audience participation. It's the perfect treat for families and anyone young at heart. The show is ideal for children aged four and above, and their grown-ups!

Additional information...

During the ‘SCRUMPTIOUS!’ development process, we collaborated with diverse community groups across Blackburn, Darwen, and Blackpool. Together, we explored stories around childhood memories. Many talked about trips to the seaside, sweets, ice cream, grandparents, hot summers, favorite places, and making friends. These themes and the characters we discovered came together to form ‘SCRUMPTIOUS!’

The nostalgic feel of the set, with its ice cream parlour style, came from some of the grandparents; it is also a part of the lives of the young people we talked to, who enjoy gathering socially in dessert cafes. An environmental group suggested a flip book-style tree that turns with the seasons, and the beautiful storybook from which the characters come to life was, of course, inspired by a wonderful librarian.

Some lovely words...
James, age 8, said, “The ice cream show was crazy and fun to watch. I liked how I got to interact with the show.”

Suzanne Wilson, Darwen Library Manager, described the Beggars Belief Collective as "a dream to work with," noting that they "always bring a magical world of fun, creativity, and discovery to our Library."

Adele Karwat, BwD Library Services Manager, praised the show as "the perfect summer treat for a library audience, developed in our library in consultation with librarians and local readers," while Andrew Orr, Blackburn Library and ASCEL Secretary, recommended it as "a delightful show for the young and the young at heart."
