21/08/2005 - 24/07/2025We are sad and devastated that our dear sweet Rosa who played ‘Sylvie’ in our family show ‘SCRUMPTIOUS!’ tragically lost her life on Thursday.
Rosa was right at the start of her career, her talent had been recognised and she was about to begin her professional training in musical theatre at the prestigious Trinity Laban Centre in London.
In our play, Rosa brought sweetness and joy. She was such an affectionate soul and small children would cuddle and cling to her after the show. Like the cherry tree that blossoms in Spring, her short life has brought wonder and beauty to everyone who knew her.
Rosa will be missed forever by her family and friends. We would like to offer them our deepest and most heartfelt condolences.
We will always be grateful to you, Rosa, for the time you gave us. Your memory will continue to sing and dance in our hearts.

Hello! We are Beggars Belief and we're DELIGHTED that you're here.
We're a theatre company and collective of artists based in Darwen. We make art, theatre, films and generally GREAT STUFF, for communities. We help communities to embrace their creativity and celebrate where they live.
We specialise in making community-driven work. Our previous projects have included 'A Call To Legs' a digital tap-dancing and art project for young people, delivered over zoom during the Coronavirus pandemic, and 't'Other' a theatre piece which explored the divides in our community and the fear of difference in which they are rooted.
We bring people together through the sharing of stories. We blend visual art, with writing, theatre and performance. Our work engages our community at every stage, and we place as much importance on the process of creating together as we do on presenting a final product.
'Three Loud Knocks', a series of 3 short episodes for children and families made in 2020, uses the wonderful Darwen Library building as a backdrop to tell the history of our town. You can read more about Three Loud Knocks on our project page here, and find out about our previous work.
Since 2020 we have been busy making other work including 'Mr Pomfret's Puzzle', which is a digital challenge, and our live theatre tour of 'SCRUMPTIOUS!'.
